Flood hits central parts of the country

Torrential rains in the northern and south-eastern parts of Bangladesh have put more than 4 million people at risk of food insecurity and disease, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) said on 19th July Friday. A total of 554 villages are submerged in last three days and 1.24 lakh people of 31,000 families in three upazilas--Sonatala, Sariakandi and Dhunot of Bogura district are languishing due to flood.
Gushing stream of flood water rolls over an elevated road at Mogra Union under Sadar Upazila of Tangail.
Vehicular movement remained suspended on the Sherpur-Jamalpur roads Porar Dokan and Shimultoli areas went under flood water.
Nine upazilas of Kurigram district were marooned by the floodwater while 4,996 people of 1,249 families (of them) have lost their dwelling houses due to the flood.
In Dewangonj upazila of Jamalpur district, sufferings of the flood-hit people have increased because of shortage of drinking water, food, fodder, and fuel.
As many as 12,000 families are marooned as Teesta and Dharla rivers flow above danger level.
Two flood-affected women from Kamarzani in Gaibandha are in search of drinking water as the sufferings of the flood-hit people have increased because of shortage of drinking water, food, fodder, and fuel.
